Is your Site Mobile-Friendly? Google says it should be!

On April 21st Google released it new search algorithm which clearly states that mobile-friendly sites will be shown favor in rankings.

According to comScore research from the summer, smartphones and tablets accounted for 60 percent of total digital media time in May 2014, up 10 percent from the previous year. Google’s new algorithm will reflect that growing trend, favoring sites with large text, easily clickable links, and optimized sizes that fit the smaller screen of a smartphone. Websites that aren’t mobile-friendly will be demoted in the rankings, which likely means a drop in traffic from a mobile audience.  >> Read the official FAQ blog post from google <<

So what can you do?

1. Use Google’s site checker to make sure your site is mobile-friendly: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ – If it’s not, contact us to discuss the options.  We can certainly help.

 

2. Monitor your site with Google Analytics & Google Webmaster Tools.  To review site-level information on mobile-friendliness, check out the Mobile Usability report in Webmaster Tools. This feature’s data is based on the last time Google crawled and indexed your site’s pages.  Take note of your rankings this past March and then again next month in May.  If you see a major decrease in rankings, your site may need some mobile optimization.
