Do you realize how many potential clients you chase away without even knowing it? You’ve spent time and money on your business, created an awesome site and marketed like crazy to get your name out. You’ve done well for yourself and either you put yourself on cruise control or you’re so busy that you’ve neglected your own site. Embarrassingly enough I find that web agencies are some of the worst about updating their portfolios. Seriously, if you have a business, ask yourself when the last time was that you updated your website or portfolio? 3 months, 6 months, a year ago? How many potential clients are you losing because they stumble onto your site and decide it’s not professional enough or maybe since there is no new work posted, they start thinking that you went out of business.

One of the benefits of having a website is that it is passive advertising –no cold calls, icebreaker emails or awkward conversations required. It allows your work to speak for itself and lets you explain what you’re about to millions of people without ever having to take a minute out of your day. You owe it to yourself to spend a little time each week or even every couple of months updating a portfolio or adding an announcement.

For some, the thought of hiring someone besides yourself to update your site is unthinkable, but if you’re too busy to do it, you’re only hurting yourself and letting unfinished work loom above your head –no pressure though! In the end, there is no difference between someone that knows how to update their site but is too busy and someone who doesn’t. Results are all that matter to a user, and if your site looks old and stale, it’s time you get some help. Getting help on website maintenance is a sign of growth so instead of dreading and avoiding it, put it on the top of your to-do list and while you let someone else take care of your site, go buy yourself a drink and toast to your success.
